A 4-year-old castrated male Maltese was referred to our hospital with heart murmur. The client did notrecognize any symptoms. Auscultation revealed systolic murmur located at the left heart base. Radiographs showedright-sided cardiomegaly with the main pulmonary artery bulging and enlargement of pulmonary vessels. Echocardiogram revealed a small ventricular septal defect and a large atrial septal defect. There was also a commonatrioventricular valve. Based on diagnostic imaging studies, the dog was diagnosed with transitional atrioventricularseptal defect.
